“To invest the time and money to send a Global Chef to our campus showed us how involved and proactive Sodexo really is.”

Sherry Farida, Teacher
Suzhou Singapore International School

“The Sodexo general manager did a great job of marketing this event and introducing Chef Becker to our student advisory board. I even tried menu items that I never thought I would, so I was experiencing it just as the students did.”

Jean Bingham
Assoc. Vice President for Auxiliary Services
Illinois Institute of Technology

“Chef Becker engaged the students by walking around the dining room and talking about the menu he put together. The food plus the interaction with the chef served as a great energy boost for the dining program.”

Kelly Schaefer
Director
Illinois Institute of Technology

“I had the opportunity to sit and talk for quite awhile with Global Chef Johann of South Africa and enjoyed learning about his background and that of his country. I also enjoyed the meal.”

James McMahon
Assistant VP and Dean of Residence Life
Marquette University

“This program separates Sodexo from other companies. Students today are well traveled and have a keen interest in other cultures. This curiosity can easily be satisfied through food. Our students crave authentic foods and experiences. The Global Chef Program provides that experience and also sends a great message that Sodexo can and does have the ability to provide these experiences.

I want to say what a great job the Sodexo team has done with the Global Chef Program this year. This is a remarkable program that only Sodexo can offer. The team has done an amazing job making this a big deal. This program has always been well received, but the marketing efforts this year have been magnificent. The invitations to key leaders across campus were an intuitive personal touch. Utilization of printed and electronic media was of high quality and wide spread. Making contact with the Office of International Programs built a grandiose bridge. The incorporation of the South African cuisine into the resident halls, the Lunda Room, the Brews, and the Market Place provided monumental exposure for the food service. The timing of his visit could not have been better orchestrated with the overlap of the International Day fair today in the AMU. The presentation on each site was outstanding. John Becker has been a huge hit across campus. Well done!”

Todd Vicker
Executive Director
Marquette University

“Thank you for the amazing dinner that our visiting chef prepared for us on Thursday evening.  The South African students raved about the food and the faculty and staff have not stopped talking about it. Chef Becker was informative and delightful company.

I look forward to the next opportunity to not only highlight your Global Chef Program, but to capitalize on our strong international programs.  This is certainly a win-win opportunity and I am grateful to have the chance to participate.”

Margaret Vos
Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs/International Studies

“This was the first Global Chef experience at the World Bank and the reviews from our customers were very positive. The food was thoroughly authentic and it was a pleasure having Chef Joaquín visit the guests table by table. It added a personal touch.”

“I personally enjoyed the chance to experience new dishes, and the students who got to meet Chef Barzola really appreciated his visit.”

Craig Allen
Director, Residential Services
Texas Christian University

“I consider myself very fortunate that Chef Barzola spent time with my class while visiting the TCU campus. Though we can try to teach our students about foods of other cultures, nothing compares to having someone with first hand knowledge in the classroom.”

Rebecca Dority

“Chef Suarez was a wonderful presence on our campus. He was an enthusiastic ambassador and an outstanding chef.”

Willy Hart
Director
Western Washington University

“Chef Samarn’s visit from Thailand gave our campus an opportunity to partner with Dining Services to provide students an educational experience outside of the classroom. Our students had a chance to learn about Thai food and culture through cooking demonstrations, food sampling and authentic Thai dance performances. There were opportunities for students to work one-on-one with Chef Samarn in preparing his recipes, both in and out of the classroom. We are always looking for ways to diversify the student experience; the Global Chef Program has proven a very valuable resource in meeting this goal."

Paul Striffolino
Director of Campus Life
Keene State College

“Students, faculty, and staff of Carleton College were introduced to authentic international flavors and cuisines as Chef Samarn Loychiam prepared some wonderful Thai dishes for them. In bringing a top international chef to the dining hall for this experience, the Global Chef program enhances the educational program of Carleton College by offering a unique learning experience for students to explore new foods and cultures."

Kerry Raadt
Director of Events
Office of College Relations
Carleton College

“We very much appreciated the Global Chef Program presentation and the marvelous skills of Chef Suarez. It made our evening. We certainly hope that Sodexo continues this kind of program in the future."

Alan B. Donovan
President
Oneonta College

“Chef Joaquin’s visit to Oneonta was an outstanding experience for the students and the staff. Chef Joaquin worked with Dr. Shih Ming Hu in his two food course labs to demonstrate and instruct the students in the wonders and flavors of Colombian cuisine. He also worked with me and our student group, the Food and Nutrition Association, to prepare and produce a Colombian dinner for guests from across the college. In each case the students had a wonderful experience with Chef Joaquin and were able to prepare and serve some outstanding Colombian specialties. Please extend to Sodexo and Chef Joaquin our sincere thanks and please see if you can bring another of Sodexo’s Global chefs to Oneonta so that we can once again enjoy playing and learning in the kitchen. It was a great experience for all. Thanks for everything."

Oscar Oberkircher
Director - FSRA Program
Oneonta State College

“Chef Joaquin Suarez brought elements of sophistication, class and style to the Oneonta campus. His thoughtful articulation of the dishes prepared, and his generous personality demonstrated to all guests that Sodexo is a world class business and an asset for us."

Paul J. Adamo
Vice President for College Advancement
Oneonta State College

“The food was not something I normally would have tried, but the presentation was so good I couldn’t resist!"

Beth Rosenbleet
Associate Director of Student Activities and Service Learning

“I really enjoyed the private dinner and greatly appreciate Sodexo bringing Chef Falk Fehlhaber to our university to expand the dining horizon of our students and our own staff."

Patricia Meservey
Provost

“The power of a partnership with Sodexo is flexed each and every time they share one of their talented international chefs with our community. Sharing food is often the first step toward an understanding of different cultures. Marquette students and staff are keenly aware of the educational value cultural differences bring and have increased their expectations for authentic culinary experiences. Chef Samarn did not disappoint, nor have any of predecessors from the program. Globalization is underway at Marquette University thanks to our partnership with Sodexo!"

Todd Vicker
Executive Director - AMU/Auxiliary Services
Marquette University

“We very much enjoyed the Global Chef program last month. Chef Joaquin Suarez of Colombia was wonderful - both in his culinary skill and his ability to engage customers. The menus throughout the week were diverse and well received. I enjoyed the meals that I participated in and heard nothing but raves from others.

The Global Chef program is a wonderful and appropriate compliment to the College's stated mission and values related to diversity and international education. I am so pleased that Ramapo was one of the selected sites for this program and hope that there will be visits from other Global Chefs in the future."

Miki Cammarata
Acting Associate Dean Students Contract Administrator
Ramapo College of New Jersey

“The Global Chef program has provided us an opportunity to increase the diversity of our campus dining options. Students, faculty and staff alike have thoroughly enjoyed these events, not only in terms of the culinary experience, but also in their opportunities to speak with the chefs about the differences in cultures, dining and living. Our students’ perspectives about culinary differences are generally limited to international cuisine as interpreted by American ethnic restaurants. Rarely are students introduced to the “real thing” and the learning that has occurred is significant."

Richard E. Rossi, Ph. D
Associate Vice President for Student-Residence Life
Creighton University

“The success of the Global Chef program here at Northwestern has been phenomenal. Our students are very urbane in their experiences, particularly in terms of their taste in food and their interest in dietary matters, and this program has provided yet more opportunity to add to their multicultural experiences. We look forward to the arrival of the next chef. Based on past experience it should be an overwhelming success.”

Bill Johnston
Director – Norris University Center
Northwestern University

"The Global Chef program has opened up a whole new world of culinary experiences to our campus.  It has engaged faculty, staff and students, and has truly enhanced our sense of community."

Jeffrey Augustine
Director of Campus Services
UMass Dartmouth

“Emma Willard is a global community. Twenty percent of our students are international, and our programs stress global perspectives and world citizenship, so Sodexo’s Global Chef program is a natural for us. Exploring cuisines is a wonderful starting point for learning about other cultures. Chef Joaquin introduced our girls to delicious South American dishes and also gave them a glimpse of Colombian culture.”
